What the petition asks
Provide support, equivalent to the self-employment support grants, to self-employed affected by COVID-19 but not eligible before because the were not trading in 2018/19.
To help avoid fraud, use 2019/20 self-assessment to asses earnings for the year.

Too many self employed people were not eligible for the self employment support scheme because they were not trading in 18/19.
This has affected newly established traders, but also people who took time away from self-employment due to changes in circumstances, such as ill health, maternity/paternity leave, other caring responsibilities, financial strains, business relocation, training and education etc.
These people have slipped through the net and not received support during this crisis and should be considered for additional support when filing returns for 19/20.
