Create a national bank holiday for key workers only!

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Create a bank holiday or day in Lieu for emergency services and care workers for those who carried on working through lockdown
Posties and courier services had a massive increase in workload! Police had more domestic violence to deal with. NHS well they're all angels end of!

We realise all key workers cannot have the same day off! I'm thinking early October btw. But If those key workers who are vital for that day can get a day in Lieu that would be gratfying as they deserve it!

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The Government is responsible for deciding what days are bank holidays, but employers are not obliged to give workers bank holidays off work. The Government is also not responsible for the terms of conditions for most key workers.

The Government sets terms and conditions for workers employed directly by the Government, but the terms and conditions of workers employed by other public agencies, or employed in the private sector, are a matter for individual employers, not the Government or House of Commons.
