What the petition asks
Uganda is a commonwealth country receiving more than £95m in aid annually. The Commonwealth is founded on certain values that include respect to individual rights.
These values are under attack with reports of teargas and weapons being used to torture opponents of the Government.
(i) The UK parliament through the FCDO approves the aid that goes to commonwealth members.
(ii) That aid (tax payers’) money comes with conditions.
(iii) Countries that repeatedly breach Commonwealth values should not only be given this aid but also suspended from the commonwealth scheme altogether.
