Petition · past parliament
Reduce MP's pay before raising any UK taxes due to COVID.

What the petition asks
MP's have had 8 pay rises in the last 10 years. Now they are talking about raising taxes in the UK and putting a cap on people's pay rises in order to pay for the COVID crisis. MP's should have their pay reduced before implementing any UK tax rises or salary caps for citizens of the UK.
Because it is unfair that MP's get so many pay rises especially now at a time of national crisis. If MP's want to cap salaries across the UK and raise taxes, they should start with their own salaries first to lead by example.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible for deciding on MPs' expenses and pay. IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.
