What the petition asks

Chameleons are becoming a very popular pet. With googley eyes, colour-changing skin, and a tongue that can shoot out twice its body length, this is no surprise! However, studies show that almost 3 in 10 chameleons will die within their first year of being brought home. This is because chameleons are

one of the more difficult reptiles to keep in captivity, as even a small mistake in their care can result in them becoming very sick. According to IUCN's Red List, 36% of chameleons are threatened with extinction, with the main reason being habitat loss, followed by poaching for the global pet trade. We feel that regulations should be introduced to hopefully reduce chameleons dying prematurely in captivity, as the way it is now could be unsustainable for wild chameleon populations in the future.
