Equal rights for Islamic marriage ceremonies in the Marriage Act 1949

Closed 49 signatures

What the petition asks

The UK has a proud history of freedom and equality. The Government should therefore amend the Marriage Act 1949, Section 26, to give equal rights for the legal recognition of Islamic marriage ceremonies, the same as ceremonies conducted in accordance Quaker and Jewish beliefs (Section 26, (c)(d)).
The Marriage Act 1949, Section 26,(c)(d) has provided for the recognition of marriage ceremony rites according to Quaker and Jewish beliefs. It would be very reasonable to extend these rights to Muslim men and the women who want to enjoy their marriage ceremony according to their religious beliefs. The Marriage Act 1949 should be amended to extend provisions for the recognition of Quaker and Jewish marriage ceremonies to Islamic ceremonies.
