What the petition asks
Immigrants who have helped with efforts against COVID-19, including health professionals, those working in social care, childcare workers, essential retail staff, transport workers, and public service workers should be rewarded for their service to the nation with fast-track citizenship.
Frontline workers have been exposed to Covid-19 at high rates & many have died, & yet they have continued to show up to work in our hospitals, care homes, essential shops, schools, in public transport, & public services.
Because of the low pay of many key workers, many can't afford the 1,330 it costs to apply for citizenship.
We should reward immigrant key workers for their service to the country by reducing the qualifying period to 2 years, & by waiving the fees, just as other countries have.
