Stop Tony Blair receiving a knighthood

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Debate if Tony Blair should receive a knighthood and change the system so honours are not automatic for ex prime ministers but are awarded on merit should the current monarch decide.
According to the press, Tony Blair will be given a knighthood to clear the back log of ex prime ministers receiving honours - they should not be automatic and should be awarded on merit.

Why it was rejected

It was about honours or appointments, which petitions cannot cover.

We cannot accept petitions about honours or appointments, including requests for individuals to be given or not given particular honours.

While historically former Prime Ministers have been knighted, this is not automatic and decisions about all honours, including knighthoods, are made approved by the Queen on advice from the Honours and Appointments Secretariat in the Cabinet Office.
