Petition · past parliament

Primary schools remain closed until stringent safety measures are in place.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

As part of duty of care to children, staff and parents, ensure that each school has sufficient measures in place to minimise any potential risk of infection for Covid 19.
This should be supported by a thorough risk assessment for each school.
Decision to reopen must be supported by scientific evidence

Why it was rejected

The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.

Since you started your petition the Government has announced that primary schools, secondary schools and colleges across England must move to remote provision from 5 January 2021, except for vulnerable children and the children of key workers.

You can read the Prime Minister's announcement of new Covid-19 restrictions, including school closures, here: https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/prime-ministers-address-to-the-nation-4-january-2021

The Government had already published guidance for full opening of schools, which included measures schools should take to ensure public health: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/actions-for-schools-during-the-coronavirus-outbreak/guidance-for-full-opening-schools
