What the petition asks

The government should cancel all accommodation fees this term for students- not just those who who can’t return to campus. Student weren’t given the choice to leave.

Reasons to cancel payments:
•Students are not permitted to leave and weren’t given to the option before lockdown started
• overseas students have no other options of accommodation
• people’s families can not afford financial support because of furlough
• students with roles as key workers are still needed to live in halls to go to placements
•students have lost jobs and do not have money for all their provisions

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Suspending payments for rent or ending a tenancy early is a matter for individual landlords, and not the UK Government or Parliament.
