Review and reform conduct of mental health assessments of benefit claimants

What the petition asks
We believe that the Department for Work and Pension’s current approach to assessing the mental health of benefit claimants is inadequate, and has been designed to get claimants off benefits. This needs to change, with mental health specialists brought in to conduct all assessments.
The DWP’s approach to people suffering from mental health issues has caused significant hardship, but the Department has failed to address the issues. Claimants are asked questions that have little to do with mental health just so boxes can get ticked. This needs to stop, so that all assessments are conducted by experts who can accurately assess a claimant’s mental health.
