What the petition asks
To ban parking charges or extend the 2hr free time parking allowances at motorway service stations, to allow commercial drivers to have sufficient rest periods.
The current free time allowance does not provide drivers with adequate rest period.
The current free time allowance does not provide drivers with adequate rest period.
As a commercial nationwide driver, it vital not too drive when tired. Many drivers are injured and killed every year falling asleep at the wheel. At present exceeding the 2 hour free parking limit incurs a £100 fine.
Almost a quarter of drivers have found themselves nodding off to sleep while driving at night, a survey has found. Fatigue was the cause of 62 fatal road accidents and more than 1,500 RTAs on UK roads in 2018, according to the most recent Department for Transport records.
