Ensuring Covid safe elections for voters, candidates and counting staff
Rejected
21 signatures
What the petition asks
We ask that the Government immediately begins planning and preparations to ensure that elections are able to go ahead as scheduled, while ensuring the safety of voters, candidates, counting staff and count management during the current public health emergency.
In recent years, changes to the law concerning the verification of voter identity, when voting by post, have helped secure postal voting from fraud. This means that it is pragmatic and fair to allocate all voters with a postal vote for the May 2021 elections, allowing for the exercising of the public’s democratic right to vote in a safe and secure manner.
