What the petition asks
Require councils to suspend council tax rises, to ease the pressure on family budgets caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
As a result of the pandemic, the unemployment rate rose to 4.9% in the three months to October, with the jobless total up to 1.7 million people. Millions are still worried about the future of their jobs and financial security of their families.
It is important that people have money for essentials.
The Government should require councils to suspend any rises in council tax to help people who are struggling, by giving them the security that they need and not forcing them to pay more charges.
