What the petition asks

We have all witnessed the heroism & devotion of our NHS staff through 3 waves of Covid-19 pandemic. These brave & dedicated people have, and continue to provide, life saving care. They have coped with awful and distressing loss of life, and returned, day after day, to long and tiring shifts.

By joining this petition we can demonstrate the massive backing of the British Public for the NHS at this demanding time.

Why it was rejected

It was about honours or appointments, which petitions cannot cover.

We cannot accept petitions that call for specific awards or honours, such as the George Cross, to be given to individuals or organisations, because we can only accept petitions about matters for which the Government or Parliament are responsible.

There is an independent process for considering nominations for awards and honours, including the George Cross, and advising the Queen on granting these, so it is not something the Government or Parliament can do.
