Stop MP’s being able to claim expenses
Rejected

What the petition asks
MP’s already on a wage much above the national average should not be allowed to claim expenses from taxpayer money.
Many of the nation is struggling, plenty of us on minimum wage jobs barely able to get by and we have to budget to cover our travel to and from work and manage our monthly food budgets. Why should MP’s on at least £60,000 per year then be able to claim taxpayers money for things the rest of the country MUST budget for in order to live and then pay for our parliamentary members to have takeaways and taxis? Public funding should not be covering personal expenses of high earners
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible for deciding on MPs' expenses and pay. IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.
