Petition · past parliament

Stop all illegals entering UK. Remove illegals here. Rule out amnesties.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

An amnesty for illegals would be manna for traffickers. It would encourage further illegal inflows, reward illicit behaviour, be costly to UK taxpayers and be grossly unfair to those who follow the rules. Amnesties do not work.
People who come here should use legal channels.
Amnesties are manna for traffickers, rewarding illegality.
The experience of Italy and Spain suggests that they encourage more illegal immigrants.
The ex-head of immigration enforcement told a Commons committee that there are probably over 1 million illegal migrants in the UK.
Estimate for 2001 was 430,000. It's now shy of 1 Million.

Why it was rejected

The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.

Immigration officers already have the power to take several actions against illegal migrants, including the power to detain them for "the purpose of removal": https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/537231/Immigration_Act_-_Part_3_-_Enforcement.pdf. It's therefore not clear what you would like the Government to do.

Further, not all undocumented migrants entering the UK are doing so illegally - many will be entering the country for the purpose of seeking asylum - so it's not clear who such a ban on entry would apply to: https://www.gov.uk/claim-asylum.

You could start a petition calling on the Government to commit to not extending residency rights to undocumented migrants, if that is something you'd like to happen.
