Require the media give retractions equal prominence to the original article

What the petition asks
I am frustrated by the volume of misinformation within the media. I understand the commercial reasons for sensationalist articles, but this also damages the readership's understanding of a subject. By providing false or over simplified information, readers derive incorrect conclusions of the topic
By legislating that printed media (including their websites) has to give equal prominence of any retraction to the original article making the incorrect claim, this will force publishers/editors to hold their journalists to a higher level of scrutiny and improve the standard of journalism. As a consequence, the public at large will gain a clearer understanding of how the world operates, as the media provides readers with guidance on how to interpret events.
