Improve the Flood Resilience of this country

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Stop the building on flood plains until we have a far better understanding of the impact it has.
Provide the Environment Agency with the necessary powers, funds & resources to provide flood defences or create a separate agency that is focused solely on flood management.
We are seeing more and more communities being flooded that have never flooded before. Wetter winters and the increasing number of storms are taking their toll across the country.
Aid is always after the event of a flooding and any permanent improvement appears to be based on how extensive / expensive the damage was. Smaller communities are often left to try and minimise the risk of flooding by themselves with very little help from the relevant authorities.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. We're not sure what specific new powers and responsibilities you'd like the Environment Agency or a replacement to have.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do, or we could accept a petition specifically calling for the Government to ban building on flood plains, if that's what you'd like to see happen.
