Landlords must provide references about former tenant's experiences

What the petition asks
I would like for it to be mandatory in cases where new tenants are asked to provide reference to measure their character, that the landlord must also provide references to show how they have acted with previous tenants so that the new tenant can also measure their character.
I want this to happen so that people who are renting from private landlords (that are not managed by an estate company) and are inexperienced with these dealings can know what sort of character they shall be renting from.
Also if there have ever been any problems between the landlord in question and past tenants, and how those matters got resolved so that they can avoid any issues arising in similar situations in future.

Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you want landlords to be required to provide references to potential tenants, but it's not clear if you want these to be written by the landlord, or previous tenants.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what types of references you want landlords to be required to provide.
