What the petition asks
We need the Government to provide funding to ensure that infrastructure designed to drain & protect East Anglia from flooding is restored and improved to its full capability.
The system must be capable of dealing with the pressures of the 21st century & the future challenges from global warming.
The system must be capable of dealing with the pressures of the 21st century & the future challenges from global warming.
The threat of flood is real. As seen in December 2020: Homes were flooded, businesses were shut, national infrastructure was closed (A14), people evacuated from their homes and businesses and wildlife habitats destroyed.
If this issue is not addressed with urgency this is a man-made disaster waiting to happen. If the flood defences cannot express the surge of water quick enough the defences shall be breached and flooding of a great economic and humanitarian will happen. Action is needed now.
