I believe the NHS as an organisation should be awarded the George Cross.

What the petition asks

We have seen over the last year how our NHS services have managed the pandemic. They have been determined, totally committed, extremely resourceful, kind, caring and loving. They have shown great courage and true Valour in the face of the pandemic. For this they should be awarded the George Cross.
It would be a true and fitting award, bestowed upon an organisation who are made up of ordinary people, doing an extraordinary job against a extremely persistent foe. Thank god we have them.

Why it was rejected

It was about honours or appointments, which petitions cannot cover.

We cannot accept petitions that call for specific awards or honours, such as the George Cross, to be given to individuals or organisations, because we can only accept petitions about matters for which the Government or Parliament are responsible.

There is an independent process for considering nominations for awards and honours, including the George Cross, and advising the Queen on granting these, so it is not something the Government or Parliament can do.
