Introduce statutory paid bereavement leave for loss of family or close friends

What the petition asks
The Government should create rights to statutory paid bereavement leave for all employees in the event of loss of family members, close friends, partners or children.
In the UK there is currently no legal right to leave for those experiencing a bereavement (with the exception for loss of a child which from April 2020 is set at two weeks).
This is particularly important during the global pandemic when people are experiencing bereavement more frequently than ever. Bereavement is hard and challenging and people need time to be with their families and grieve.
