Petition · past parliament

Raise the drinking age from 18 to 50 and then let pubs open and sell beer again.

Rejected 16 signatures

What the petition asks

We, the undersigned, want pubs to be allowed to open and sell alcohol to those who have the ability of drinking a couple of pints without wanting to fight everyone.
According to what we see in the news all of the young 'uns are attending illegal raves and generally having a good time while us old 'uns are sat at home watching repeats of 'One Foot In The Grave' on the telly.
Opening the pubs to sell beer for us over 50s would improve our mental health and wellbeing and would help our licenced trade to survive.
We are also the age group who are most likely to die in the foreseeable future so please let us spend some time (and money) having a beer in the pub.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about not being able to go to the pub, but it's not clear if you want the Government to increase the legal drinking age for all circumstances - so it is illegal for people aged 18 to 49 to buy alcohol or consume it in pubic - or just for pubs to be immediately reopened by access to be restricted by law to people aged 50 and over.

We also couldn't publish a petition that made unqualified generalisations about people aged under or over 50, as yours does.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
