What the petition asks

Amend the UK Human Rights Act 1998 so that the British Government can deport terrorists and migrant criminals who commit serious crimes in the UK. Currently, the British government has inadequate powers to do so under the current UK Human Rights Act 1998.

Over the years there has been an increasing number of illegal asylum seekers arriving in the UK. They arrive in dinghies, across the Channel from France and are breaking the law by doing so, as they should make a legal claim for political asylum in France, Spain or other safe country. Furthermore, there have been multiple cases where the Government has been unable to deport terrorists and migrants who commit crimes in the UK because criminals are afforded protectiion under the act.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We understand you are concerned about the Human Rights Act preventing non-UK criminals from being deported, but it's not clear how you want this Act to be changed. The Government is also subject to international agreements regarding the treatment of foreign nationals, which would continue to apply even if the Human Rights Act was amended.
