Ensure restaurants serving Pakistani, Bangladeshi food cannot identify as Indian

Rejected 12 signatures

What the petition asks

The Government must enforce marketing and trade laws to ensure that restaurants serving Pakistani, Bangladeshi cuisine are not fraudulently claiming to be Indian restaurants. This is a misrepresentation and fraudulent use of a national identity and profiteering using illegitimate trading names.
Restaurants serving Bangladeshi and Pakistani food are falsely claiming to be Indian restaurants, and in doing so are tarnishing the reputation of the Indian restaurant industry and Indian cuisine. A clear distinction must be made between restaurants of different cultures and different nations and this is a breach of trust for consumers, fraudulent misrepresentation of a business and an infringement on the many decades of goodwill developed by genuine Indian restaurants.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

It is up to individual restaurateurs what to call their restaurants and how to describe their wares. This isn't a matter for the UK Government or House of Commons.
