Review of higher education fees for all students enrolled prior to COVID-19

What the petition asks
Where higher education students have continued their courses online during the COVID-19 pandemic, fees for the disrupted period should be capped at that institution’s lowest advertised fee, as if it were an online course, or the institution’s cheapest location that the student had enrolled upon.
Many students across the country are enrolled on higher education courses that have switched to exclusively online delivery. Of those who have persisted with this switch, rather than defer, student experiences have varied considerably. Regardless of individual experiences, I believe strongly that for this period, all students should pay no more in fees than what they would have paid had they chosen an online delivery mode, or their institution’s cheapest location at which to enrol.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
The Government sets the maximum universities can charge for tuition fees, but decisions about different rates of tuition fees set by universities are a matter for indiviudal universities. It is also not clear how your proposal would work for universities that only have one rate of tuition fees.
