80% of basic Wage pay for women on maternity for at least 8 months

Rejected 20 signatures

What the petition asks

We want Statutory Maternity Pay to be increased for women and rules changed to 80% of their basic employment wages, up to the amount of £38,000 per annum.
Currently the Statutory Maternity Pay is 6 weeks at 90% and £151.20 for 33 weeks after or 90% of your weekly wage (whichever is lower). By having a baby you are increasing the amount you need to spend for this we as a family or single person sacrifice your income drastically to bring a child into the world. It is more common than not that a family will suffer financially by having children and a few will then also have to ask for further help with rent, food banks and household bills.
