What the petition asks
Testing made available on the NHS for prostate Cancer testing in men over 40, as this is one of the most common cancers in men. Regular testing would save so many more men. The earlier it’s detected the better the result to recover, just like Breast screening and smear tests in women.
As the NHS is public service and funded by the taxpayer through the government they are the ones that need to pass this in Parliament. This would help save so many lives, heartache and The earlier it is caught the more the success of recovery. All for a simple blood test.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
We understand you want to make blood tests for prostate cancer more easily available, but we're not sure whether you want the age limit on the existing NHS England informed choice programme for PSA testing to be lowered to 40, or whether you want to see a routine screening programme implemented for men aged 40 and over.
There's currently no screening programme for prostate cancer in the UK. This is because it has not been proved that the benefits would outweigh the risks, and research has shown that the current tests don't reduce the number of men dying from prostate cancer.
