Make the government officially recognise 'Jewish' as an ethnic group
Rejected
12 signatures
What the petition asks
The government should add jewish on the official list of ethnic groups.
After the ridiculous debate on BBC #politicsnow, it has come to the attention of many Jews within the UK that many do not recognise Jews as an ethnic minority. Jewish people who do not identify with the current accepted options should not have to tick 'other' on any forms any longer. This change it will serve to disallow abhorrent debates such as the one that recently took place. Jewish people are an ethnic minority and its about time the government recognised this officially.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. There isn't a specific Government list of ethnicities.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do, for example including Jewish as an ethnicity option in the census, or on all Government forms, if that's what you'd like to see happen.
