Abolish the Open Register

Closed 29 signatures

What the petition asks

When your name is added to the Electoral Register, your name and address is also added to the Open Register by default, unless you opt out.

The Open Register can be purchased by anyone, for any reason.

This archaic concept goes against the right to privacy entitled to every UK citizen.
With research showing an increase in cyber attacks, phishing attempts and identity fraud in the UK, privacy is more important today than ever before.

Those unaware or misinformed are left vulnerable, and criminals can use this easily accessible information to target elderly residents living in solitude.

There are no restrictions on the usage of the edited register, and the ERO must supply it, to ANYONE, for as little as £20.00 plus £1.50 per 1,000 entries.
