Increase maximum prison sentence for Animal Cruelty & add mandatory registration
Rejected
21 signatures
What the petition asks
Increase maximum prison sentence for Animal Cruelty from 6 months to at least three years. Add mandatory registration to an animal abuser list that must be referenced when anyone purchases a new animal.
Punishments for animal abuse are woefully inadequate and barely act as a deterrent. Many abusers who have killed or attempted to kill pets are allowed to own more animals within 5 years. The low fines and almost never implemented prison time is ineffective both as a deterrent and at protecting animals.
