What the petition asks
Children are at very low risk Of serious illness from Covid19. Vaccines authorised for emergency use shouldn’t be used in this situation as long term impacts haven’t been studied. Parents cannot give informed consent.
Vaccines should not be given to healthy children with underlying health conditions that are being used and only approved under emergency legislation. They should only be given when long term impacts and reactions are known. Parents and children deserve to be able to give informed consent.
Why it was rejected
The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.
In their advice for priority groups for Covid-19 vaccinations from 30 December 2020, the JCVI made included the following statement:
"The committee advises that only those children at very high risk of exposure and serious outcomes, such as older children with severe neuro-disabilities that require residential care, should be offered vaccination with either the Pfizer-BioNTech or the AstraZeneca vaccine. "
