Make public sexual harassment criminal and punishable by law
Rejected
18 signatures
What the petition asks
Clearer law and punishment for public sexual assault by implementing legislation such as the on the spot fines seen in France. Punishable offences should include catcalling, predatory remarks, stalking, indecent exposure, groping and unwanted sexual advances.
Public sexual harassment is not exclusive to women but it does affect us disproportionately. In the wake of the recent survey done by UN Women UK, 97% percent of women aged 18-24 have been sexually harassed and 80% of all women said they had been sexually harassed in public spaces in the UK. This crisis needs to be addressed by our government now more than ever in order to put a stop to us living in fear.
