Fund local councils to install more street lighting across the UK

Closed 40 signatures

What the petition asks

There are too many areas in the UK where it can be unsafe for women to walk through at night, in part because of a lack of lighting. Women often take a longer route to try to avoid poorly lit areas and can still be attacked.
Poorly lit streets can be hot spots for assault. Installing more lighting is the bare minimum we can do, to help protect women who have no choice but to go out at night, whether it’s walking home from work, a friend’s house or simply going to the shop. This is an issue across the country, there’s an alleyway in Leeds where multiple incidents of sexual violence have been reported.
