Make local council tax referendums mandatory in order to stop indecent increases

What the petition asks
Ensure that councils cannot subject residents to indecent increases in council tax without a local referendum on the matter
Because councils are inefficient and largely innefective in the way they spend money. Council investment is often targeted and does not deliver any added value to the majority of tax payers. Services are poor, crime and antisocial behaviour is on the increase, local infrastructure is degraded.
Council tax is pernicious and unfair. Why does a HMO of 10 residents pay the same as a family of four. Why is a band C in Westminster cheaper than a band C in Portsmouth
Councils need to innovate better

Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you are concerned about council tax increases, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
Local authorities already have to hold a referendum if council tax is to be increased by 5% or more, or if council tax for general spending rises by 3% or more. If you would like the threshold for holding a referendum to be reduced, we could accept a petition requesting this.
