Student Nurses working throughout COVID-19 should receive the gov £500 bonus.

Rejected 16 signatures

What the petition asks

Pay our student nurses who have been working 37.5 hours on placement in the healthcare environment & covid wards throughout the pandemic. They have received no financial reward or bursary and yet again are forgotten, they are the only healthcare worker not to receive the £500 bonus.
I have recently finished my 3rd year of student nursing and await my first position as a registered nurse. My cohort and I have received no bursary, no payment throughout our 3 years on placements and throughout the pandemic. Again, we are reminded how little our efforts are appreciated, we have been informed that we are not entitled to the government £500 bonus. We will soon start as RN’s in April and will be the only ones amongst our colleagues to have not received the bonus for our efforts

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Decisions relating to pay and bonuses for healthcare workers in Wales are a matter for the Welsh Government, not the UK Government.

You could start a petition to the Welsh Parliament calling for the bonus being paid to healthcare workers in Wales to be extended to student nurses, if that is something you'd like to do. You can find out more about how to do this here: https://petitions.senedd.wales/.
