Expand the runway at Southampton airport to save the economy, heritage and jobs.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Help us to make Eastleigh Council see they are making a huge mistake in not allowing the expansion of Southampton Airport. Expanding the airport will allow the airports future to be sustainable while creating 2000 new jobs and allowing better, more fuel efficient aircraft to access the airport.
Southampton airport is a major source of travel for local residents and beyond to access travel to other parts of the U.K. and internationally. Expanding the runway will allow the airport to remain accessible to people’s travel plans whilst creating better routes for destinations, which currently hundreds of thousands currently drive miles to other airports to access. The expansion will make the future of Southampton brighter, cleaner whilst keeping the history of the airport alive.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

This is a matter for Eastleigh Council as the relevant planning authority, not the UK Government or Parliament.

In any case, since you started your petition the Council has granted planning permission to the proposed runway extension at Southampton International Airport. You can find out more about this here: https://www.eastleigh.gov.uk/planning-and-building/southampton-airport-planning-application
