Introduce a tax for social media advertising revenue.

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

Introduce a tax on sites like Facebook, Instagram, Tik tok and snap chat to help stop these big companies ruining our democracy.
We have all seen the world around us change since smart phones and social media has grown more and more powerful and we have all seen the effects it has had on the young people of our country especially, everyone’s addicted to swiping and liking but what we don’t notice is how much money these companies are making from ad revenue. We are the product being sold to advertisers, these companies already run the world with the power they hold if we can’t stop them at least tax them on the billions.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about how social media companies are taxed, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

UK taxes already apply to advertising revenue of social media companies, but a company's tax liabilities would depend on their structure.
