What the petition asks

Dredge the River Tyne up to and including around Dunston and further along towards Newburn and Wylam.

If the continuing build up of sediment continues and annual rainfall increases it is only a matter of time till more major flooding takes place along the banks of the River Tyne and more subsidence occurs, if dredging could be done it would create jobs as well as create leisure opportunities on the river with a more free flowing river and also help the environment overall.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.

Decisions about dredging rivers are an operational matter for the Environment Agency, not the Government or House of Commons. As a result it is not possible for the Government or House of Commons to take the action you have requested.
