Licence religious slaughter to match animals killed to defined religious needs

Closed 331 signatures

What the petition asks

Change in the law and appropriate regulations so that abattoirs have to prove the “religious needs” and define the number of animals to be slaughtered so as to satisfy the needs of the religious community DEFRA to be responsible for monitoring and enforcement of this.
The use of the religious exemption is not adequately monitored or controlled by DEFRA and many more animals than necessary are killed by these methods. (71% of sheep were killed by RS (2018 FSA survey). The amount of produce exceeds the needs of Jews and Muslims and is sold to the non religious food chain to be eaten by groups whose religious/ ethical needs may prohibit it consumption e.g. Sihks, and Hindus.
