What the petition asks
Government or Parliament should disbar individuals on the Sex Offenders Register from standing for election to Parliament. Consideration should also be given to applying this disbarring to other elected posts, including local government.
Persons convicted of sexual offences and who are judged to be of such a threat to groups or individuals in the community that they must be managed under the terms and conditions of the Sex Offenders Register are not fit and proper to represent any constituency.
Their presence on the ballot paper and ensuing publicity may be designed to, or result in, further distress to survivors of their offences. They may be mistakenly viewed as safe persons in the voting community.
