Stop divorce being a profit making industry. Create a public divorce service.

Rejected 10 signatures

What the petition asks

To overhaul and update the divorce process and legislation. Stop it being a profit making industry and introduce a national public service to process and manage divorces, case by case. Maximum divorce limit of 6 Months. Divorcing parties follow guidelines of the service making it fair and equal.
For too long, divorce has been a profit making industry. This industry feeds greed, control, power, friction, psychological emotional financial mental harm, safeguarding risks to children, destroys families and the vulnerable weaker party. Take solicitors out of the equation to stop manipulation of the law and indirect control and power. Make it a public body, where no party has power over the other, both parties are equal by following current legislation enforced by the public body and Court.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We understand you're concerned about the cost of divorce in the UK and want solicitors to be taken 'out of the equation', however as both parties in a divorce have legal rights, and therefore the right to legal representation, it is not clear how you want such rights to be protected under the proposed scheme.

You may wish to sign this petition which calls for a related action: Review the cost and speed of the divorce process.
