Seek to work with the NZ Government to repopulate British Hedgehog numbers

Closed 151 signatures

What the petition asks

New Zealand academics are contemplating lobbying their Government to begin a hedgehog cull. European hedgehogs were introduced by Brits and are now a threat to the NZ ecosystem.
British hedgehog numbers have declined dramatically. More needs to be done to save the species.

The idea of our Commonwealth friends culling their overpopulated numbers whilst the UK struggles to preserve this endangered species demomstrates a common interest in capturing hedgehogs on NZ and releasing them (carefully planned) around the UK.

We have the means to do this: academic, charitable and volunteer networks in both countries could make this happen with Government logistical support.
