Stop the Government putting Calorie Counts on Menus

What the petition asks
In the Queen’s speech on 11.05.2021 Government plans to introduce legislation enforcing businesses with over 250 employees to calorie label all food they sell was announced. We ask the government to withdraw this legislation to safeguard the physical & mental health of the population.
Calorie counting as a means of controlling obesity has been proven ineffective with 95% of calorie counters actually going on to gain weight.
Furthermore, during the pandemic incidences of Eating disorders- Anorexia being the deadliest of all psychiatric illnesses- have shot up. This legislation would negatively impact the entire population, not just people with diagnosed ED’s.
We all know someone who’s vulnerable to diet culture: Whether it be a friend, your daughter, yourself...please sign.
