Do not ban the import of cropped dogs to the UK

Closed 238 signatures

What the petition asks

A recent petition called Stop the Rising Number of Ear Cropped Dogs in the UK has been raised and is asking for a ban on the import of such animals. We would like an outright ban rejected as this is a violation of personal freedoms and a would affect the livelihoods of legitimate overseas breeders.
Ear crops are illegal in the UK however many imported dogs come from rescue centres or specific breed specialist. A ban could put many dog lives at risk and could destroy many businesses. There could be more stringent checks implemented to tackle illegal activity but an outright ban on the basic right to import cropped dogs should be rejected, Welfare standards are in place under DEFRA to protect imported animals. We call on the government to not ban the import of ear cropped dogs to the UK.
