Stop History & Human Geography degrees from becoming inaccessible to non-elites

Rejected 17 signatures

What the petition asks

I would like the Government to stop Universities from potentially blocking their History and Human Geography degrees from those of the working class who tend to go to non-Russel Group Universities.
I would like the Government to do this because it is important to me and thousands of more aspiring Historians/Geographers who's dream it is to study those topics. It would not only rob our country's youth of their ambitions but would also have a detrimental effect on employment as many will be forced into a job that they had never intended to be in. These subjects feed into jobs in politics but a number of people want to go into other areas such as education and business management.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about access to history and human geography degrees, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

In any case, decisions about what courses to offer and admissions are a matter for indiviudal universities, not the Government or House of Commons.

We could accept a petition calling for the Government to increase funding for higher education courses on history and human geography, to incentivise universities to offer these courses and increase places for them.
