Investigate letters of comfort to on the run terrorists

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

the government issued letters of comfort to terrorists, but now the government is allowing investigations into alleged crimes by the security forces, So where are the investigations into bombings, Rules should be equal not 1 sided.
Stop these letters of comfort and bring forward prosecutions to those that committed terrorist crimes, Those that had their sentences annulled and allowed their freedom should be investigated to see if other terrorist crimes have been committed by them and re impose the initial sentences.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. In 2014, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland set out that such letters were no longer in force:

This followed an independent review by Lady Justice Hallett:

There was also an inquiry by the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee:

Decisions on prosecutions are a matter for the prosecution services and not the UK Government or Parliament.
