What the petition asks
Review if our contribution to the Eurovision Broadcasting Corporation is still valid.
We should stop being one of the ‘big five’ at the Eurovision Song Contest. I love Eurovision and it’s something I look forward to every year, but the horribly predictable voting is demeaning to any artist that the UK puts forward. Would going through the semi finals as a non Bug Five be so bad?
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Decisions about the UK's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest is a matter for the BBC, not the Government or House of Commons.
The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.
This means the Government is not responsible for decisions relating to the Eurovision Song Contest.
