Remove UK from the Eurovision Song Contest & no longer financially support it

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Remove The United Kingdom from the Eurovision Song Contest, and no longer financially support the annual event.
The Eurovision Song Contest has repeatedly shown itself to be a partisan led, politically motivated event that in no way reflects the reality of the quality being displayed. The scoring is consistently biased and skewed - a dishonest scoring mechanic that we should not advocate as bastions of truth and democracy.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Decisions about the UK's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, and funding for the European Broadcasting Union, are a matter for the BBC, not the Government or House of Commons.

The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.

This means the Government is not responsible for decisions relating to the Eurovision Song Contest.
